A castellated nut is a nut that is used on various kinds of axles and shafts that are subject to vibration and dynamic loads. Holes are drilled in these axles into which, after tightening the nut, cotter pins are inserted, which in turn pass through vertical slots in the nut. This allows the nut to be securely fixed and prevents it from loosening during vibration.
Area of application: DIN 979 is used in mechanical engineering and construction.
Material of manufacture: steel.
Coating: zinc. Zinc protects against corrosion if the fastener is to be used in aggressive environments.
Analogs: ISO 7038.
