Chain - a hardware product consisting of links of round or oblong shape connected in series with each other. Like most other rigging products, chains are used in various fields - from economic to industrial purposes.
Types of chains
According to the type of rings, size and other design characteristics, these products are of several types. The most common are round-link chains. They, in turn, may have a different size of links and depending on this are divided into:
- long-chain chains;
- short-chain chains;
- medium-chain chains.
Long-chain chains have oval-oblong rings, which makes this type of chain more flexible. Short links have a small diameter links, but this does not prevent them from withstanding significant loads and be resistant to rupture and deformation.
How to choose a chain
To choose and buy the right chain, you need to know what levels of loads it will withstand, and in what conditions it will be operated. The load-lifting chain and the general-purpose chain have completely different technical features. Both are, at first glance, a seemingly simple metal chain, but breaking loads, flexibility, abrasion resistance and other characteristics are completely different. It is also necessary to consider the method of use: the chain will be only a suspended element or it will be actively operated on winches.
