A circlip is a hardware product in the form of an open circle used to fix such structural elements as shafts, bearings, and levers.
Application: used to fix parts and assemblies on a shaft or in a hole. Locking rings are mounted in the grooves, so that the protruding part works as a shoulder fixing the part in the mounting location.
Material of manufacture: SST - stainless steel; 1.4122 - stainless steel.
The abbreviation SST stands for Stainless Steel. Different manufacturers may use different steel grades under this abbreviation, such as A1, C1, or 1.4122. These grades differ in terms of mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and price.
For retaining rings, it is important to select the right material for the intended application:
- SST has better mechanical properties but lower corrosion resistance. This is a more affordable option suitable for applications where the product’s elasticity and strength are important, but there is no significant exposure to moisture or aggressive environments.
- 1.4122 - has better corrosion resistance but slightly lower mechanical properties compared to C1. This is a more expensive option that should be chosen if the product will operate in a humid environment or where increased corrosion resistance is important.
If mechanical strength and elasticity are more important for your application, you can choose SST.
If corrosion resistance is more important, it is better to choose 1.4122.
If in doubt, we recommend clarifying the conditions of use: the environment, the presence of moisture, the load, and the service life requirements for the product.
Important! For d≤9, these rings have tendrils instead of eyelets with holes.
