A flanged toothed nut is a fastener that creates a split threaded connection with an increased contact area, which allows for both redistribution of pressure on the material and the creation of a larger friction patch to prevent loosening and is used when fastening parts to grooves along which the part can move. DIN 6923 has a standard height dimension for these types of nuts, a wider flange than 6331, but thinner, and one that can have a flat surface and a serrated notch to prevent loosening.
