A flanged nut is a fastener that creates a split threaded connection with an increased contact area, which allows for both redistributing pressure on the material and creating a larger friction area to prevent loosening and is used when fastening parts to grooves along which the part can move. DIN 74361 is often referred to as a wheel nut because it is most commonly used in the mechanical engineering industry to fasten wheels. It comes in three forms: with a tapered flange (shape A), which allows the parts to be centered on the axis on which this nut is screwed, due to the fact that the taper enters the hole of the wheel rim and thus "sets" the hole evenly relative to the bolt axis; with a conventional flange, similar to DIN 6331 (form B); and with a flange that is not rigidly connected to the nut body but is an integral part of it and can be turned against it, similar to the principle in DIN 9085 (form H).
Fine pitch nuts provide a more precise and smooth adjustment when tightening and can be used for parts where high precision is required.
The scope of DIN 74361 is used in mechanical engineering.
Material of manufacture High-strength structural alloy steel, strength class 8.
Zinc coating protects against corrosion if the fastener is to be used in aggressive environments.
