DIN 466 A knurled nut is a fastener used in connections where constant tightening and loosening by human hands is required, without the use of additional tools. The knurling creates additional grip between the fingers and the nut itself.
DIN 466 fastening group
Depending on the material of manufacture, DIN 466 nuts are divided into groups:
Brass fasteners - nuts made of brass
Stainless steel fasteners - nuts are made of stainless steel
Materials for the manufacture of DIN 466 nuts
DIN 466 nuts are made of the following materials:
- Steel of strength class 5. Which can be additionally coated with zinc. Zinc protects against corrosion if the fasteners are to be used in aggressive environments.
- Brass. Brass nuts are used if the system is subjected to frequent dynamic, vibration and cyclic loads.
- Stainless steel. Steel grade A1 allows the use of bolts at significant temperature changes and in aggressive and humid environments.
Areas of application for DIN 466 nuts
DIN 466 is used in medical equipment, in measuring instruments (theodolite tripods, levels), in machine tools, etc. When assembling equipment for chemical laboratories, pharmaceuticals and medicine, manufacturing movable and adjustable elements of measuring instruments such as levels and theodolites, high nuts with a knurled head, called push nuts, are used. The product complies with DIN 466 and is used in non-loaded, quick-release threaded connections.
