Reinforced washer is a fastener that, compared to other types of washers, has an increased thickness, which, together with the high-strength steel from which it is made, allows it to be used under conditions of high static and dynamic loads in such types of equipment as presses and lifting mechanisms or for clamping devices.
DIN 7989 fastening group
Most often, DIN 7989 washers are made of stainless steel and belong to the stainless fastener group.
Materials for the manufacture of DIN 7989 washers
DIN 7989 washers are made of the following materials:
- Steel, which can optionally be coated with hot-dip zinc. Hot-dip zinc protects against corrosion if the fastener is to be used in aggressive environments.
- Stainless steel grades A2 and A4. Steel grade A2 allows the fasteners to be used at significant temperature drops and in aggressive and humid environments.
Application range of washers DIN 7989
The washer is used in production and construction sites, when assembling metal structures. Its main function is to distribute the pressure exerted by a nut or bolt head evenly over the bearing surface. This prevents the base from being pushed through, which can lead to the destruction of the assembly.
