ART 8248 is a rope (cable) clamp that is part of a rigging system. It is used for splicing steel wire rope or forming loops on it. This device provides a secure attachment. Therefore, it is (according to the current regulatory documents) mandatory for use when a steel rope/ cable is used during construction work. The clamp connection is inferior in terms of reliability to the procedure of braiding the ends during extension, but superior in this respect to the knotting operation.
