Overview
A self-contracting nut is a nut used in connection elements that are constantly exposed to dynamic loads, especially vibration, which can cause loosening. The contouring in DIN 985 is accomplished by a nylon ring in which the thread is cut during tightening.
DIN 985 strength class
The strength class of a Din 985 nut is the maximum applied force at which the nut begins to fracture. Din 985 nuts are manufactured in strength classes from 6 to 10. From strength class 8 onwards, the nut is considered high-strength.
