DIN 988 PS is a fastener that, unlike the main type of washers, has a very narrow field and a wide range of thicknesses at each diameter. For example, with a diameter of 5 mm, we will have a set of washers with a thickness of 0.1 to 1 mm, in increments of 0.1. This allows you to perform the main function of this washer - to adjust the gaps between the elements to be connected and the fastener to balance the assembly and avoid skewing or backlash, with an accuracy of 0.1 mm. This makes the connection more reliable as it reduces vibration forces. This washer is mostly used in conjunction with circlips.
DIN 988 SS is a fastener that, unlike the PS version, is made of 60G, 65G spring steel, has a hardness of 440-550 HV and only one fixed thickness on each diameter. However, a whole range of washers with different diameters have the same thickness. For example: washers with a diameter of 6 to 12 mm have a thickness of 1.2 mm; washers with a diameter of 14 to 18 mm have a thickness of 1.5 mm, etc.
Materials for the manufacture of DIN 988 washers
DIN 988 washers are made of steel and stainless steel grade A2.
Application range of DIN 988 bolts
DIN 988-SS, like PS, is used in areas such as machine tool construction, instrumentation and manufacturing industries. They are mainly used to compensate for axial clearances in machine parts.
