GOST 5918-73 is a castellated nut used on various types of axles and shafts subject to vibration and dynamic loads. Holes are drilled in these axles into which, after tightening the nut, cotter pins are inserted, which in turn pass through vertical slots in the nut. This allows the nut to be securely fixed and prevents it from loosening during vibration.
Strength class of GOST 5918-73
The strength class of a GOST 5918-73 nut is the maximum applied force at which the nut begins to fracture. Nuts of GOST 5918-73 are manufactured in strength classes from 6 to 10. From strength class 8, the nut is considered high-strength.
Fastening group of GOST 5918-73
Nuts are divided into groups according to the material of manufacture:
- High-strength fasteners - nuts made of steel with strength class 8 and above
- Stainless fasteners - nuts made of stainless steel.
Materials for the manufacture of GOST 5918-73 nuts
GOST 5918-73 is produced in the following materials:
- Steel, which can be additionally coated with plain (white) zinc.
- Stainless steel (A2, A4) does not require coating.
Areas of application for nuts of GOST 5918-73
The GOST 5918-73 nut is used in almost all industries. Hexagonal slotted nuts are often used in furniture manufacturing.
