Polyamide fasteners: Advantages and scope of application

    The stability and reliability of any mechanism or structure depends on the reliability of the selected fastener. Most often, it is made of non-ferrous and ferrous metals, but in recent years, the so-called polymer mount has been increasingly used. As practice shows, this material is in no way inferior to metal products, and in some parameters it significantly surpasses them. Polyamide is much better to use in structures with increased requirements for corrosion resistance.

 

Characteristics and advantages of polyamide fasteners

 

    Polyamide (structural plastic) is made from a chemical compound, polyamide 6, with the addition of etalon and caprolon. This material has quite high strength indicators and the best indicators of resistance to electrochemical corrosion. In addition, products made of this material are considered environmentally friendly.
  Bolts, studs, screws, and washers successfully replace steel fasteners that cannot fully withstand the aggressive effects of moisture and chemical environments.

 

The increase in the need to use fasteners made of such material is due to a number of significant advantages over hardware products:

 

  • Polyamide is very resistant to such substances as oils, alcohols, carbohydrates, ethers, ketones, as well as weak acids and alkalis.
  • Products made of this material are hygienic, which allows safe use in the medical and food industries.
  • The melting point of polyamide reaches about +225 C, and the maximum short-term heat resistance is +170 C. Polyamide fastening retains its properties, remains elastic at temperatures down to -20 C.
  • The high percentage of use is also due to the absolute non-magnetism of the material, low coefficient of friction and high resistance to shock loads.

 

Manufacturing process

  • Molten polyamide mass is poured under pressure through a hole at the top of the structure into a pre-made form, which consists of two parts and is completely identical to the future product from the inside (except for the thread);
  • After complete solidification, the product is removed from the mold and a thread is formed by the method of hot rolling. It is performed with the help of a red-hot steel roller, which is attached to a special structure, it is rolled over the part of the product where there should be a thread.

It should be noted that this type of carving is much stronger than cut or cast.

Application of fastening from polyamide
