Welded fastening: metal screws and nuts for installation by the welding method
There are a number of ways of attaching bolts, bushings, pins and other metal products to sheet metal. Pressing, flaring and riveting have their advantages, but they require the preliminary creation of holes. Welded fastening allows you to avoid unnecessary operations. Welded nuts and welded screws are mounted by the welding method almost instantly - in just a few seconds or even milliseconds.
Welded fasteners are used in a wide variety of fields: welded screws and welded nuts are used in heavy industry, machine and shipbuilding, thermal power engineering, bridge construction, etc. Special welding machines are used to connect the fastener to the sheet metal base. They provide melting of the metal at the attachment point and press the fastening product into the melt. The welding gun works reliably and precisely, therefore the fastening of welding sleeves and welding studs is often called a shot. Welding fasteners are used for metal products made of various types of steel (copper-plated, stainless, etc.), aluminum, brass, and other metals. The minimum thickness of the metal sheet depends on the welding technology and generally starts at 0.5 mm. |
Welded fastening: installation methods
In order to fasten welding screws or welding nuts, various welding technologies are used. Among them, 4 most popular methods can be distinguished.

Welding screws and welding nuts
The following products are most widely used for welding fastening.
- The ISO 13918, DIN 32501 stainless steel or copper-plated weld screw can be either an externally threaded or unthreaded weld stud or an internally threaded weld sleeve. As already mentioned, welding is provided by a metal tip on the end of the screw.
- Square weld nut DIN 928, PN 82169 made of different types of steel is indispensable for fastening to sheet metal. Here, welding provides four projections on the underside of the nut.
- Hexagon weld nut DIN 929, PN 82169 is welded similarly to the previous version due to the use of three projections on the lower end of the product.
- Weld nut, ART 9060 stainless steel can have convex (form A) or concave (form B) weld points or no weld points at all (form C). The shape of the welding points determines the method of fastening the product.
